Cozy games earn loyalty by not nagging you

October 11, 2026 · Markus Lindqvist

I have deleted a dozen cozy games because they stopped being cozy. The moment a farm sim starts pinging me about energy timers, the relaxation turns into a part-time job I did not apply for.

Harvest Hollow does the opposite, and it is why it stuck. There is no meter forcing me back. When I open it, it is because I want to fish or check on a villager, not because a countdown finished.

That design choice feels almost radical now. By trusting players to come back, the game makes coming back feel good. I log in more, not less, because it never tried to trap me.

If you are shopping for something to wind down with, watch for pushy timers in the first hour. The genuinely cozy games respect your evening instead of competing for it.
